What Is Norco?
Norco is a prescription medication given to patients to relieve their moderate to severe pain. The medication is classified as a combination medication because it contains both hydrocodone and acetaminophen. The hydrocodone in Norco changes the way the brain interprets pain and acetaminophen helps to reduce fever. Norco is not recommended for use in children under 6 years old, as the risk for serious side effects increases in such young patients.
Norco Addiction Treatment and Rehab
More common side effects associated with Norco use include nausea, vomiting, constipation, lightheadedness, dizziness, or drowsiness. All of these effects should go away once your body adjusts to the medication. If they do not go away or if they get worse, notify your doctor promptly.
More serious side effects of Norco, although uncommon, include mood changes, agitation, confusion, hallucinations, stomach or abdominal pain, difficulty urinating, signs of adrenal glands not working properly, unusual tiredness, and weight loss. If you notice any of these serious Norco side effects, tell your doctor right away.
Seek medical attention immediately if you notice the following after taking Norco: fainting, seizures, slow or shallow breathing, severe drowsiness, difficulty waking up, or signs of an allergic reaction such as rash, itching, or swelling of the tongue or lips.
Treatment Options for Norco Addiction Symptoms
Patients who take Norco exactly as prescribed may still develop a Norco dependence or addiction. This is, in large part, due to the hydrocodone found in Norco. Hydrocodone and other opioid pain relievers can be very addictive because of the way that they interact with the brain and the tolerance that they cause in some patients. If you begin to suspect that someone in your life is abusing Norco, get help right away. Signs which may point to Norco addiction can include becoming obsessed with finding and taking Norco, performing poorly at work, and losing interest in the hobbies you once enjoyed.
Norco Medical Detox
Norco patients who no longer want to treat their pain with the medication should set up a meeting with their doctors to discuss treatment options. In most cases, doctors will gradually lower the Norco dosage over time so that the patient’s body can adjust to less of the medication. This tapering down strategy helps patients avoid the worst Norco withdrawal symptoms.
Patients should never stop taking Norco suddenly or “cold turkey,” as this will increase the risk of unwanted withdrawal symptoms. In addition, your Norco dosage and treatment schedule should never be adjusted without instruction from your doctor or pharmacist.
Norco Rehabilitation Programs
Norco patients who are looking to overcome their addiction can benefit from the many resources and programs offered by The Recovery Village. Regardless of whether the patient begins treatment with inpatient or outpatient Norco rehab, they will first safely detox from Norco. Once all of the Norco is removed from the patient’s system, they can participate in individual and group counseling sessions and recreational therapy while they are at The Recovery Village.
Inpatient Norco Rehab
Inpatient Norco rehab is a treatment option in which patients live on campus at one of The Recovery Village’s designated inpatient centers while they begin the path to recovery. This option can be very helpful for patients with severe Norco addiction who need to get away from their surroundings in order to recover from their substance abuse disorder. Patients who may find it difficult to recover while living at home will also benefit from inpatient Norco rehab.
Outpatient Norco Rehab
Upon completing inpatient Norco rehab, patients will enter the next phase of treatment in outpatient Norco rehab. Outpatient Norco rehab allows patients to live at home while they come to The Recovery Village for their treatment appointments. Some patients with less severe Norco addiction may choose to begin recovery with the outpatient rehab program and skip inpatient entirely.
Choosing a Norco Rehab Center
Choosing a Norco rehab center is an important step in your recovery journey. To make an informed decision, schedule a meeting with your doctor to discuss what features you should seek in a Norco rehab center.
If you or someone you know is suffering from Norco addiction or another substance use disorder, seek professional help immediately. The Recovery Village has many treatment options that fit each patient’s unique needs.
