What Is Xtampza ER?
Xtampza ER is an extended release medication prescribed to patients to help them manage severe pain. This medication should be taken daily to achieve around-the-clock treatment rather than taken as needed to treat sudden breakthrough pain.
Due to the high risk for addiction, overdose, and misuse associated with opioids like Xtampza ER, this medication should only be taken as an alternative treatment. The patient’s condition should be assessed for Xtampza ER only after other opioid analgesics or immediate-release opioids have proven to be ineffective, intolerable or otherwise inadequate to provide sufficient pain management.

The most common side effects associated with Xtampza ER are nausea, headaches, constipation, somnolence, pruritus, vomiting, and dizziness. All of these common side effects should dissipate as the body adjusts to Xtampza ER. If they do not go away or seem to get worse, notify your doctor as soon as possible.
Other possible side effects of Xtampza ER that are more serious include blurred vision, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dastroesophageal reflux disease, chills, fatigue, drug withdrawal syndrome, irritability edema, pyrezia, excoriation, decreased appetite, hyperglycemia, arthralgia, back pain, musculoskeletal pain, myalgia, migraines, tremors, anziety, insomnia, cough, oropharynheal pain, hyperhidrosis, rash, hot flush, hypertension, increased heart rate, lethargy, memory impairment, poor-quality sleep, abnormal dreams, euphoric mood, restlessness, dyspnea, night sweats, serotonin syndrome, adrenal insufficiency, and adrogen deficiency.
This is not a complete list of all potential side effects of Xtampza ER. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you believe you are experiencing side effects to this medication that are not listed above.
Treatment Options for Xtampza ER Abuse
Xtampza ER patients who are responsibly taking the medication may still develop a psychological addiction or physical dependence to the drug. This is primarily because Xtampza ER is an opioid, which is a very addictive class of medications. If you begin to think someone in your life is developing an opioid addiction, seek professional help as soon as possible. Signs which may point to Xtampza ER misuse include becoming obsessed with finding and taking the drug, losing interest in the hobbies and activities you once enjoyed, performing poorly or irregularly at school or work, and suffering financial losses due to money spent to obtain Xtampza ER.
Xtampza ER Medical Detox
Schedule a meeting with your doctor to discuss alternative treatment options if you are no longer interested in taking Xtampza ER. You should never abruptly stop this treatment plan, as this will greatly increase the risk for severe, unwanted withdrawal symptoms. In fact, never adjust your Xtampza ER dose or treatment schedule unless directed by your doctor.
When ending a treatment plan, doctors will usually lower the patient’s dose over time. This provides the body with ample time to adjust to lowering amounts of the medication, thereby helping patients avoid serious withdrawal symptoms.
Inpatient Xtampza ER Rehab
Inpatient Xtampza ER rehab requires patients to live at an inpatient center while they recover. Living on campus is very helpful for patients with severe Xtampza ER addiction or those who may find recovery more difficult while living at home.
Outpatient Xtampza ER Rehab
Outpatient Xtampza ER rehab allows patients to live at home while they visit a treatment facility for scheduled appointments. Patients can either first enter inpatient Xtampza ER rehab and continue to the outpatient options or begin treatment with outpatient Xtampza ER rehab if they have a less severe addiction.
Choosing an Xtampza ER Rehab Center
Choosing an Xtampza ER rehab center is an important step in each patient’s recovery journey. If you are unsure as to what to look for in a rehab center, schedule a meeting with your doctor to discuss which type of program may be right for you.
